SHIFT Makers

Who are the SHIFT Makers?
The SHIFT Makers are a team of UT students who foster community and conversation while serving delicious zero-proof cocktails at various events across campus. In partnership with Sans Bar of Austin, we train our SHIFT Makers in mixology, customer service, community engagement, and leadership. While the drinks are delicious, the emphasis is on creating a fun social experience regardless of one’s choice to use alcohol or not. By challenging our collective expectation of what social connection looks like, these Makers are creating a real culture SHIFT!

SHIFT Makers promote access to enjoy drinks crafted with care and creativity, without the pressure or expectation to engage in alcohol consumption.

What are zero-proof cocktails?
A zero-proof cocktail, or “mocktail”, is a non-alcoholic drink consisting of a mixture of juices, syrups, mixers, and sometimes zero-proof spirits. Unlike a soda with lime, these drinks are expertly crafted, sophisticated, and flavorful cocktails— sans alcohol.

What do you serve?
The SHIFT Makers currently offer a menu of 4 zero-proof cocktails.

Rosemary Ginger Mule: an alcohol-free take on a Moscow mule.
The Longhorn: a zesty drink complete with zero-proof tequila (President Hartzell’s favorite!)
Nada Colada: an alcohol-free take on a Pina Colada with an aromatic blend of allspice and fresh citrus notes.
Seasonal Mocktail: varies on the season! Ask us about it.

How much do you charge?
Pricing depends on several factors including the size of the event. Our goal is not to make a profit but rather cover the basic costs of supplies and labor. We will always do our best to work within your budget! Any excess monies go toward funding equitable social experiences for student organizations that are financially or otherwise resource burdened.
